What Do You Want For Christmas

What Do You Want For Christmas

Are you old enough to remember the old kids song from the baby boomers day, "All I Want For Christmas Is My 2 Front Teeth"? Gads, it's goofy to say so..but I LOVED that SONG! hahaha Leave it to ME!

I always had a list at Christmas time...just like all kids....But once I was a wife I finally had all I felt I could ever want or ask for..I had the world on a string and I was settin' on my own rainbow...still am I guess.

I remember one Christmas, probably in the late 70's,  I asked for a skillet with a lid.  Now I've always been a very realistic person, in spite of being a hopeless romantic and a dreamer too.  And I LOVED to cook and still do and I NEEDED a big skillet with a lid.  I didn't need a diamond ring or a diamond necklace or a fur coat or new car.  I NEEDED a skillet with a LID!.  And I got one!
So I was at the grocery about 2 weeks after Christmas and this gold digger with a half gallon of makeup on, and a diamond necklace that lit the path ahead of her for a good 18 feet.. like those headlamps hunters and miners wear... approached me and she said, "I heard you asked for a skillet with a lid for Christmas and that's what you got"  And she laughed that sheepish laugh like she was trying to hide her laughter but just couldn't....oh poor dear.... I said, "That's riiiiiiiiiight"  I KNEW she was a gold diggin' jerk and I knew where she was goin' with this conversation....and she did.  She said, "Hahahahahahaha HOW RIDICULOUS...it was CHRISTMAS.....WHY didn't you ask for a diamond NECKLACE....that's what "I" got?"  And she waved her little diamond pendant in my face and walked off laughing.....I WANTED to yell to her and say...."YEOW AND YOU'RE HUSBAND IS HAVING AN AFFAIR TOOOOOOOOOO and IS TRYING TO COVER HIS BACKDOOR....ARE YOU AWARE OF THAAAAAT???????...The REST of the TOWN IS!!!  MINE is at HOME in his WORKshop with visions of what I'm going to whip UP in that skillet and feeling so SO thankful he has a wife who loves to COOK...AND I SEE you don't have a CART...so what are you HERE for?  A CAN OF CAMPBELL'S SOUP???"   Naw.....I didn't say all that...that's what I WANTED to say.....but I just got my stuff and came on home....feeling so SO blessed to have the husband "I" had and not one like SHE had.....

I've never been one to ask for big or expensive things....except that old barn...and if this rascal would just give me the go ahead..I'd sure go help him tear one down and move it to the south east corner of our secret garden..but it's not lookin' like that's going to happen..and I'm good with that..no big deal...some people have no legs or no eyesight...I have no big old weathered barn...and that's okie dokie...cha ching.....

I put a little poem in the Encourager a couple of Christmases ago and it talked about what we get and give for Christmas and it went something like this:

So many of you ask, since Christmas is drawing near,
"What do you want for Christmas? What can we give you this year?"
If we say, "We want nothing!"  You buy something anyway.
So here's a list of what we'd like; believe now..what we say;
Pajamas for a little child, food to feed the poor.
Blankets for a shelter, and we ask but little more.
Perform good deeds and let us know, or volunteer your time.
These last are worth a fortune, and they needn't cost a dime.
We have our fill of garments, ties and underwear and socks...
Candy is too fattening and crossword books, we've got a lot...
We don't need trays or plates or cups and knicknacks we have plenty...
We've no walls to hang more pictures on and books we've a hundred and twenty...
So please take what you'd spend on us and help the poor instead...
Just send a Christmas card to us and tell us what you've done...
We'll open them on Christmas Eve and read them one by one.
It won't cost as much for postage as a package sent would do.
You'll need no wrapping paper, ribbons or even glue.
And we'll thank God you listened to us and what we had to say
So we could be the instruments to help someone in this way....

Well...geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzz there's just so much good we could all do, if we'd just take the time to DO it....you know it?  We live so fast in this rat race world and we zip thru our days like they are without end.  Not realizing that one day, we'll wish we had a few of those days to live over and listen to those closest to us and hug a little tighter or even hug period...
I sometimes think...that the way many or most of us go thru our days...we somehow think we're making an impression...like we're somebody....but in all reality...the way we go thru our days...we're actually showing ...just how stupid we are......LIFE itself is TERMINAL.....Make TIME for that person that means the most TO you....and Live with PASSION!

Today's my big day....I get to have a crater cut out of my neck to take this little mole off....so if I'm not up to posting tomorrow...I'll at least post a quick note and let you know I'm not up to it...but hopefully this won't amount to much.....

Peace and love.....I love you all and thanks so much.. for stopping by....this has been a birdseye view of the katydid...until next time...you are loved....
