The Case of the Oyster-less Oysters - A Restaurant Review -

Well gooooooooooooood Saturday morning gang...I hope I make sense with my storytelling this morning....I had one of those horrific sleepless nights last night...I was just telling the geezer that I was feeling so good and so wide awake at 3:50am I almost just got on up...because I usually get up about 4am anyway...but laid there a few more minutes and finally dozed off and 'now' I feel like I've been run over by a big pickup truck.....I woke back up at 6am..when he was getting up filled with vim and vigor and ready to start work on that old tree the tree cutters cut down Thursday...I said, "WHERE is the FIRE?  You MADE big headway YESTERDAY...Let the day get aWAKE for goodness sakes"  But noooooooooooooooo he said once his mind comes to life...he has to get going..and I understand that because I feel the same way....

I asked him out on a date last night and we went to China Buffet on 8th Street here in Metropolis.  We had gone there with Tom and Shannon a week or so ago on the China seafood night and we all got oysters...and I'll be switched...we couldn't hardly find ANY oyster in those 'oyster ovals'....Sooooooo I've been wondering for days about those oysters and thinking it over and I got to thinking to myself ... "You know Self, I'm thinking that was an oyster 'oval' with oyster JUICE in it and maybe one little oyster cut into about 6 pieces and mixed in batter and fried in about 6 'preTEND oysters'...and "I" think we're getting ripped OFF out there at that place..."

Soooooooooo I didn't tell Billy this before we left...because if he had thought I was going to make a scene...he would have insisted we just go somewhere else...but as a private investigator...I knew SOMEBODY had to get to the bottom of the issue of the Oyster-Less....Oysters..and I know how most people just let things slide..so I knew that somebody had to be meeeeeeeeeeee

We got there and got seated and got our oysters...and I love fried oysters so much .. that's usually all I get..but Billy gets the crab cake and frog legs too...But we got our oysters and set our plates down at our table and I went back for another empty plate and the geezer said "What are you going to DO fill up TWO plates?"  I said "Nooooooooo now don't panic...but I'm here to inVESTIgate"  He just said, "Ooooohhh Lordy"

So I put one of the big old fat 'oysters' in the empty plate and cut it open and ....SURPRISE...NOTHING was inside....I tasted the batter and it kind of 'tasted' like oysters...but there was noooooooooooooooo oyster inside...I cut open another one and another one and another one and of the 6 oysters I took out on my plate...I found ONE LITTLE PIECE of oyster in all of that fried batter and I was LIVID..IT wasn't even a whole oyster..just a little piece about the size of a bean or smaller......I said "You just wait until they come around like they always do and ask if everything is ok"  Billy said, 'Now don't make a scene...we should have just gone somewhere else if you're not satisfied here"  But I said 'Nooooooooo that's why people are always getting ripped off everywhere because NObody wants to SAY anything...and they need to KNOW that their customers are not STUPID and we KNOW there are no OYSTERS in our OYSTER ovals...

In a bit the little woman came to our table and she was smiling from ear to ear and she said  "Is everyting OOOoooooK"  Billy was about to say yup...but I said, "Well ACTUALLy...there are no OYSTERS in our OYSTER ovals..."  She looked so funny and pointed with her finger right down next to my oyster batter I had crumbled all over that empty plate and she said "No OYster in DERE?"  I said "Noooooooooope...NOOOOOOOOOOO oyster in the oyster ovals...you people are putting oyster JUICE in BATTER and probably cutting up CANNED oysters and adding bits and pieces to the batter and if we even get a little 'piece' of oyster...it's like we won the lottery"
She chuckled...but looked funny and said "Weeeeeeeelll we lose suppLIER for oysters and that why no oyster"  I said "But don't you seeeeeeeeeeeeee....THAT is misLEADING to put out fried oyster OVALS on your buffet and make people think there are OYSTERS in the ovals...that's very deCEITFUL and it's very WRONG...you are ripping people OFF"  She said "Well we no can help it...we have no oyster" I said "THEN JUST PUT UP A SIGN AND SAY...SORRY WE LOST OUR OYSTER DISTRIBUTOR...so we are temporarily out of OYSTERS"  She just went "teeheeeheeeheee' and walked OFF....I WAS LIVID!!!!!!  And Billy will tell you real quick...that's very rare for me....

When Billy was paying...a friend of his walked up to pay also and Billy said "I guess this is our last trip HERE...Katy has found that there are no oysters in that oyster batter"  The man said, "Yup I realized that a while back and just don't put them on my plate any more"...So seeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...soooo many people go out to eat often...because they just don't want to cook and clean up the mess....WE go out when we want a TREAT of a particular food....so I do NOT appreciate paying good money and being ripped off..and you will never EVER see ME standing by and letting something bad go down and not doing SOMETHING.....What's that logo...."See Something...SAY Something"   we need to ALL be DOING that....

So when we left...I got one of their little comment cards and wrote across it in big letters...."HEY THERE ARE NO OYSTERS IN YOUR FRIED OYSTER OVALS...AND WE WON"T BE BACK!"
Billy said, 'Just get on the internet and find you some place that has fried oysters and we'll go there next time"  But Lacy's is an hours drive and their oysters haven't been that great the last few times we were there and we haven't been back there since last summer...Billy said "As soon as it warms up in Florida to where we won't have to wear our coats...I'll take you to Tommy's favorite oyster spot in New Smyrna Beach"  ooooooooooooooooooKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK   :-)

But we still had a great evening out....we were only gone from home about an hour and half...we took a long drive thru the country on the way home and saw tons of deer and this and that....We like simplicity...so it was still a really good evening to 'us'....

I was still wide awake when he was ready for bed at 10:30...so I stayed up and watched TV and a movie came on at 1am called Date Nite...and it was about this middle aged couple...that had had a younger couple over for dinner and the wife of the couple was so laughy and blabby and talking about how lively their lives are and after the couple left...the older couple started talking about how they acted and the wife said "Do you ever feel we've been together so long....we've grown into a kind of RUTT?"  The husband said  "Nooooooooooooo I think we have a GOOD life...but do YOU feel that way?"  The older wife said, "Well I hope not...but after seeing how THEY acted...now I'm worried"  So the husband said, "Well we'll fix THAT...we'll go on a DATE NITE"  :-)  SO she bought a spiffy black dress and wore heels and jewelry and makeup...she was really beautiful when she came down the stairs for their date....and the old husband said, "WOW ...YOU look GREAT....I'm taking you to that resturant in Manhattan you've always talked about"...Sooooooo here they went to this swanky restaurant...but when they got there they found that you have to make a reservation one month in advance....they were pouting and about to leave when some called out "TREMBLEMARTIN...Table for TWO"....and they kept walking...and the waiter said it again "TREMBLEMARTIN...Table for TWO"...and once again he said, "TREMBLEMARTIN...LAST CALL for Table for TWO" and this old husband looked at his wife and grinned and yelled, 'Oh WAIT WAIT WAIT...we almost missed your call...WE are the TREMBLEMARTINS"  hahahahaha

So they were led to this table and they were giggling about how childish that was and what a trick they pulled on the restaurant....and they ordered and continued to giggle about the prices and their big DATE NITE OUT.....and in a bit 2 big old guys came to their table and ordered them to follow them....THEY thought it was security for the restaurant and they had been found out and they giggled about being their age and being kicked out of a restaurant....but when they got outside they found that this was MAFIA men and the TREMBLEMARTINS were in BIG TROUBLE with the Mafia and now this older homey couple had taken their identity....

It was a great movie and I laughed and laughed out loud several times from 1 to 3am...at that goofy movie.....At the end, of course...all was good...and they were setting the next morning at a pancake house having pancakes before they headed home and talking about their horrific all night ordeal....and she said, "I guess even if we ARE in a rutt...it's ok...because we're safe and have what we need and we have each other and to US...this is a good life"  And he said "You know...we DO have a great life in spite of it being kind of subdued and if I had it to do over again...I'd pick you over and over and over again" Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhh just gave me goose bumps...Of course that wasn't realistic of what a real husband would say...a real husband would say "You'd BETTER like quiet and subdued...because there's not a snowballs chance in the devils hometown...that you'll get me to do something like THIS again..You and your 'perking up our relationship' ideas ... almost got us KILLED"   ggggrrrrrrrrrr

Ooooooooh well....it was a movie...but it was really a good one....I got all the way through the movie and it was soooooooo good and then right at the end....the run from the mafia got them in a bad part of town and they went in a shady place with not so nice looking women and I had to turn channels for a minute or two...but that was a great movie...

We have a kind of quiet and subdued life in Round Knob Canyon...just like the Fosters had in the movie before they took the identity of the TrembleMartins...but we KNOW we have a great life and I'd marry this old geezer all over again too...and while he may not say it....he would too...So quiet and subdued...is just perfect for some folks...I know it is for us.....

No #2 health blog this morning...but we'll probably do that again Monday or Tuesday....for sure...

Gotta get...the geezer is going to be on the chain saw most of the morning and I want to get done inside and help him a bit.....Peace and love from the canyon...thanks so SO much for stopping by and this has been a bird's eye view of the katydid and until next time...you are loved.....
