Walk The Talk

I've loved poetry for as long as I can remember and I used to write a lot of poetry.  It's all in a big notebook somewhere.  But I only like poems that rhyme and kind of tell a story and my favorite poet of all time, I guess...would be Edgar Guest.  So many of his poems are filled with a good lesson or very thought provoking message or they tell a story...they're just priceless.

I'm in a dither already this morning and I've been IN this dither for several months now, but it's gotten so much worse the last month and it's about to come to a head...probably this week and it's with someone I'm trying to help and so I'm already running late this morning.

Now all is ok in the canyon and with all our kids and grandkids and my dither has nothing to do with family upheaval.  But I think I can get in more messes trying to be nice or helpful...than anyone I know and I'm probably in my biggest dither right now of all time...just trying to be a helpful friend.  AND maybe I can tell you about it in the coming days because this person doesn't have a computer or cell phone OR any friends really...so it would be ok to TELL the story...I just need to wait and see how it's going to play out over the next few days before I DO that...but I can tell you for a fact...it isn't going to end pretty....This is a very VERY sad situation...and I'll try to share it soon...but for today, shall we pray

I don't know about you...but I'm a very easily motivated person and I can be watching tv and hear one little simple line or phrase or be in church and Bro Shawn just say one little simple thing or quote or whatever and I grab my pen and start scribbling...and I always like to give all of us here some little thing to think about each day....even myself....so I was trying to think of something interesting...yet thought provoking...and this poem by Edgar Guest popped in my mind...so read this over once or twice and really take to heart what it really has to say...We can ALL learn a lot from this little poem ... And I'll try to share my little story about my current mess, soon...but it won't be something to laugh about...it will be something to pray about...

I'D RATHER SEE A SERMON

Edgar Guest

I'd rather see a sermon
than hear one any day;
I'd rather one should walk with me
than merely tell the way.

The eye's a better pupil
and more willing than the ear,
Fine counsel is confusing,
but example's always clear;

And the best of all the preachers
are the men who live their creeds,
For to see good put in action
is what everybody needs.

I soon can learn to do it
if you'll let me see it done;
I can watch your hands in action,
but your tongue too fast may run.

And the lecture you deliver
may be very wise and true,
But I'd rather get my lessons
by observing what you do;

For I might misunderstand you
and the high advice you give,
But there's no misunderstanding
how you act and how you live.

When I see a deed of kindness,
I am eager to be kind.
When a weaker brother stumbles
and a strong man stays behind

Just to see if he can help him,
then the wish grows strong in me
To become as big and thoughtful
as I know that friend to be.

And all travelers can witness
that the best of guides today
Is not the one who tells them,
but the one who shows the way.

One good man teaches many,
men believe what they behold;
One deed of kindness noticed
is worth forty that are told.

Who stands with men of honor
learns to hold his honor dear,
For right living speaks a language
which to every one is clear.

Though an able speaker charms me
with his eloquence, I say,
I'd rather see a sermon
than to hear one, any day.

Peace and love from the canyon....thanks so SO much for stopping by...this has been a bird's eye view of the katydid and until next time...you are loved.
