How to Win Friends and Influence People

I love studying books on self improvement.  Weeeeeeelll when I say 'study'...I mean I skim them with my high lighters and see what gems I can find on my quick run through.

But I've always said I want to make a difference and influence people...I didn't know HOW I was going to pull that off when that thought first started nagging at me 60 years ago when I was just a very shy little girl.  But being a wallflower that was teased and made fun of in school for not being as stylish and as worldly as the other little girls in my class...made me want to make a difference to others...big time

You'd think with all this free time I have since the broken leg accident...I'd be studying up a storm...but I've had such a time with concentration...so I haven't gotten much studying done....yet.  But I still have plenty of time ahead of me...to try to work some studying in..to my busy schedule....

Things ARE looking up though....I even fixed breakfast for the geezer this morning.  I tried to get him to go to geezer breakfast...he hasn't been since the accident...but he said he wasn't going to leave me sitting her while he went to eat out....Well I don't go ANYWAY...it's a mens breakfast...so I was fine with him goin...but he'd have none of that...So I scooted my walker into the kitchen and fixed him biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs....and he was in HOG HEAVEN!!!

Sooooooooo I'm running just a tad behind today...but for a very good reason...so we're just going to talk just briefly about some simple things we can do...to make people like us and just a few things that can help us 'make a difference' if we want to.  I THINK these 6 ways were in one of my Stephen Covey books...just not sure...but here we go...

#1 Is to just be genuinely interested in other people.  Be a person that really and truly cares when a person is sad or in trouble or has worries that are possibly just a little too much for them.  And be interested in a way that they know...you are sincere...

#2 Smile a lot...especially in public!   Remember when I told the story the other day about Kim telling me a worker at Big Johns told her I always look so serious when I'm shopping in their store and how I'm always rushing?  Well I hate that....so I'm going to be smiling more....

#3 Call people by name so they are fully aware that you are focused in on them....This is something I don't do much...Now GEEZER does...and he'll go through a check out lane and start up a conversation with the cashier and even look at her name tag and call HER by name....I'll be lots of them think he's going to call them later for a date....hahahahaha   But nooooooooooo...he's all mine...always has BEEN and always will BE.... He's just exceptionally friendly...

#4 Be a good listener and encourage others to talk about themselves....Now I'm a SUPER listener...the geezer has trained me well...because he LOVES TO TALK and tell stories in detail...so I'm that way when I'm out and about and talking to others...I'm a super listener....Now on the thing of having folks talk about themselves....I can do that in print...but don't ask me many personal questions in person...because you will get very brief answers....I hate talking about myself in person....

#5 Talk about the other persons interests...I have a history in doing that TOO...Because geezer can talk for an hour and a half about his bow hunting and things he's seen in the woods and how hunts go...But I can try to tell him about a murder next door and he's as impatient as they come....just give him the facts...is the neighbor dead for sure and did the killer get away...that's all he needs to know...  :-)  THEN he'll somehow work a hunting story around that murder...hahahahaha   ooooooohhh meeeee

#6 Make people feel important and do it sincerely.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE helping people that really need help.   There's a young teen that I'm wanting to help so badly right now...but I can't drive or even leave the house alone...and she's being sent to a drug rehab place tomorrow.  I really don't know her...just heard about her and saw her picture...and she's such a beautiful girl and she has such a promising future ahead of her...IF she will just get her life on the right track....
SOOOOOOOO I've racked my brain to try to come up with a way to do something for her...while she's in her 90 day re-hab and possibly even help her when she gets back home.......I'll think of something....if the good Lord is willing and he wants my nose in this...but I will SURE be following his will either way...because the last thing I want is another broken bone to keep me down a while longer....for goodness sakes...

Well that's it for today....I'm sooooo late many of you probably have forgotten me by now this morning...but maybe you'll find this later today....

I'm getting emails asking how the geezer is doing in over seeing all the household chores and my recovery .. while I'm down and he's just as perky today as he was on day 1....That rascal is my ROCK!   Even if he runs to the store...he calls me from there to see if I'm ok.   And he's got chores down to a science....Grocery shopping once a week...even if we run out of something and he keeps a running list for the next trip...He's learned his way around Walmart, Big Johns and Dollar General and he's met new friends...other husbands shopping for their wives and they share stories over the milk and eggs aisle or here or there...He came home from his last trip...and he goes the same time and same day each week...and he came home and said "Well Frank wasn't at Walmart...but then his wife was having HER surgery last Thursday...so I guess he had to change his shopping day this week.."   HE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW FRANK before I broke my leg....  :-)  ....He keeps up the laundry daily...says he doesn't want to get behind...he's still cooking and waiting on me hand and foot....he is just doing SUPER!!!  So thanks for asking....

Thanks so much for stopping by...I love you all gobs and gobs ...

Peace and love from the canyon....
